BBQ ribs yum!

Knew this sale would be worth it have to love buy one get one free.  Today has been the first dry day in awhile so we are taking advantage of the grill and having pork back ribs, homemade fries and corn.   Lemonade would be nice with this dish.

Recipe:
Bring Ribs to a boil in cold water skimming off any foam  3mins
Rinse under cold water
Bring Ribs to a boil again this time with 2 med carrots, 1 onion, 1 clove of garlic, salt and pepper.  Reduce to a simmer for an hour.
Now they are ready for the grill.  Fire up the BBQ and get your favorite bbq sauce ready to lavish these ribs with.
Yum Yum

aka Olliegator

this really ends as a love nibble, he is really a gentle creature.
It's so hard to get an animal and pick out their name before they truly come into their own.  So after living with Ollie for the last 7 months of his life I have really gotten to know his alpha male traites although he looks like a true doberman he is 100% lab personality.  Although he looks so satanic he is the most loving pup ever.  I will take a pic of how he comes down to greet us after a day of work.  He slowly comes down the stairs with the most threatening snout but he is truly just stretching  but that doberman look is so stereotyping.  He is truly the biggest baby with alot of teeth and a true puppy mentality.  What a security dog though..... I could write this off.

Jack's 8th Birthday Party

I can't believe how quick they grow. I can remember being pregnant like it was yesterday. Now he's so big. I go through this every year on both my boys birthdays. I think every mother does.

Anyhow, the challenge this year a Pokemon Party since it's come back it has not lost it's popularity.  I did find it hard to buy party themed supplies locally so had to become creative again.  No on-line shopping allowed for me.  I was able to purchase Pokemon Masks, Pokemon stickers, Pokemon blowers and of course Pokemon cards.

Invitation went out at the beginning of last week. Designed them in a postcard theme:
the front of the invitation

the back of the invitation

I am going to decorate the house with all the fun pokemon colours red, yellow, white, black, royal blue and green should do.  I think I will make some stickers like the above chimchar card to decorate the tableware and even make smaller ones to use as confetti.  I think I will do the same for the loot bags plain colours and decorate with stickers.
Jack's favorite character is Chimchar (the little orange monkey above) so he'll have to be in there someway.   I think I may buy a Dairy Milk ice cream cake and decorate that as a pokeball and then make some pokemon cupcakes.  I find kids like cupcakes better and you always have less waste.

We found alot of great ideas from this website best of all no pics so you still can be creative.
I promise tons of pics after Saturday.

The count down is on!

Seedlings are started and growing really well.  We are planting alot of goodies. I haven't gardened in about 3 years so this is an old favorite pastime that I cherished and am ready to turn my thumb green once again.

Let's start with the vegetable garden... We have the seedlings started for the following; Giant pumpkins, green dragon cucumbers, green onion, lettuce, tomatillo, corn, honeydew melons and watermelons.  I will be starting seeds for sweet sliced cucumbers (I'm hoping they will be like the little cute gournmet cucumbers you find at Superstore), cherry and strawberry tomatoes, dill, basil, oregano and garlic chives.  I won't be forgetting carrots, peas, beans, roma tomatoes, onions and garlic.  Oh yes, I forgot strawberries, my favorite but they never really get to leave the garden as soon as they are that perfect colour red I pick and eat them.

So the timeline is on for the design of our vegetable gardens or in actuality our whole backyard again.  How could you have everything going so well to let it fade away.  Oh well no use crying it's time to put it back together.  Just wait until you hear about the flowers or rather see the pictures.

In the next few weeks, I have to redesign our gardens, deck and window boxes.  Lots of projects, lots of work and lots of fun.

Recycled Skateboard Jewelry

Say what.  My teen is going through boards like crazy and after the darn things break he still keeps them.  Now,  I have a reason to stop nagging him for keeping them and if I can find the time I know what I'm going to do with them.

happy bunny day

Another beautiful day.  Took a walk in the cemeterary now that the snow has melted.  It's one of my favorite spots.  My hubbie made a great ham with scallop potatoes and peas.  Very yummy.  The kids loved there easter baskets.  I guess I should have taken pictures, not that much chocolate or junkie toys more books or magazines playdough and of course some chocolate.

Happy Easter Donna O'Rielly

It was becoming doubtful to anyone in town that Donna O'Rielly would be home with her family for Easter this year.  Some believed she was dead others that she had left her family for an internet lover but we were all surprised on March 24th when she was found alive.  As she escaped her basement prison screaming for her life as she flagged down a passing Purolator truck who immediately stopped to assist the well known missing woman.  As the stories begin to trickle out about this poor woman's horrific experience we all begin to admire her strengths pity her nightmares and consider ourselves all very lucky.  As it turns out the 62 year old beast, Romeo Cormier, with his wiry wild disgustingly long beard abducted Donna within seconds as she left the mall.  Sticking a knife to her throat demanded she put on a hoody and then duc taped their hands together as they walked, that's right walked down at least 6 city blocks to his basement apartment in a boarding house.  The scary thing was he wasn't stalking her, she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.  He was looking to capture himself a "girlfriend".

I can't image what she had to endure under this vermon's control but I have to praise her strength to not give up and to fight for her life.

keep your eyes open

Tonight just around dusk as we headed back into town after our evening drive to buy good friday pops.  The most unexpected event crossed our path.  The car in front of us clipped a moose.  How lucky we are.  My husband with his superman abilities pulled our car to an easy stop in just enough time to allow the moose to spring back to it's feet and cross in front of our car before darting off into the woods.  Thank god the car in front of us didn't hit it straight on and thank god no one was behind us when this all happened.  Just remember that we are always fringing on the wild side.

It has been a good Friday

I love long week-ends especially when the weather is perfect.  I love spring and this year it has come early.  Yippie!!!!!  The seedlings are planted and the Crocuses are just starting to bloom in time for easter.

To start this easter week-end off right we took Ollie, our puppy, for a long walk down by the mill.  I took my camera along and snapped some great shots of him with his beaver stick that he pulled out of the creek.  The pussywillows are blooming and my hubbie found me a great treasure for the garden.  I'm so excited.

Today was a perfect start to getting our yard back into shape and reclaim it's beauty and potential.  We have ways to go but it will be fun getting there.  Especially with all the cool things we have collected along the way.
